Happened to be in this building (PCCT) sometime back. Its next to the Jelapang toll booth. Was waiting for the elevator.Took a look out the window to view the north part of the Kinta Valley. It was lovely. To the left was the highway heading toward cangkat jering and north east was the IC registration office. I hope they don't clear too much of those slopes behind the IC office or they might get mud on their front door one rainy morning.
Another view of the IC office. click on the photo to enlarge the shot.
Another view of the highway leading to cangkat jering. i tell ya these hills in the Kinta valley are always breathtaking!
Looking north...In the background at the bared hill, that should be the location of the APMC cement mill. ( or is it La Farge now???).Heavy rain clouds up there...
you could see the rain coming....
cheers!

Along the banks of the Kinta River .
Met some friends for yam char ( ended up with yum seng) yesterday evening at Frens Corner (thats the building on the left with the fluorescent lights) . Took the oppotunity to take some shots of the Kinta River since it was just next door!! The river makes for an idyllic shot as it meanders south towards the Perak river.
1) The building where Frens Corner is located is the Perak Chinese Mining Association( 1935)
The sign is still there but looks pretty quiet. One of its dynamic presidents was Lau Pak Kuan, a Tseng Lung Hakka . A road is named after him in Ipoh Garden.
2) In the background, right, is the Brewster Street bridge ( built in the 1920s). Its due to be replaced. I'm not looking forward to that. We'll have traffic chaos then.
3) Not in the picture but left of where i was standing was another hakka miners clubhouse founded by Leong Fee ( will paste a photo in a following post) . That building is called Han Chin Pet Soo.
The trees along the river bank were beginning to change to a flaming red. I'm hoping all the trees will turn red about the same time.
Another shot of the tree but against a different backdrop. It was almost sunset and the matching contrast of colors made for a pleasant photograph.
Now if only our MBI would trim the grass and tidy up the walking path it could be picture perfect.
As i finish writing todays post i realise that this part of town has an abundance of heritage stories that can be retold. I just realised also that the famous concubine lane, the 1st chinese theatre, FMS bar and so many other establishments are just a block or 2 away. Why the Celestial Cabaret was just on the other side of the river. In fact Ipoh life was concentrated mostly along the river those days. Hmmm...
cheers!

Bananna leaf lunch @ stadium Perak
This is one of my favourite bananna leaf lunch spots. Its located at the Perak stadium , stall # 25. Its called Thillai stall.
I usually try to get there by 1130am coz at that time the food is freshly cooked and steaming hot. I feel very invigorated whenever i have an early lunch there.
Some of Thillais favourite dishes are cooked over a charcoal stove.
I notice there are more veggies available on Fridays. Veggies cooked the indian way are delicious.
I usually like to drown my rice in curry gravy, parapu and the likes. Then add some chutney to enhance the flavour. yum yum.!
Also on Fridays pai rasam is served. Earlier i thought it was too sweet. But now i love it.
Once it reaches 12+ the crowd will start to come in. Thillai only opens till 3pm. Bon appetite.

the Polo Ground
Every morning Ipohs' Polo ground is a hive of activity as early as 630am. There will be groups of residents congregating for their morning excercise at this green lung area.
They dont just jog and walk ..they also dance to the music , tai chi, and do other forms of excercises
For those that have had enough ..go read the morning paper......
..or maybe buy some healthy fruits.......
Dont be surprised if you can't find a parking place by 7am.But thats ok. Just park further and walk to the grounds for a warm up.
