...sometimes when you are out station and don't know the food geography of your present location ...you just want to have a basic meal and not pay a bomb for it....I found this place at Jusco Taman Maluri last weekend....I was still full but figured I'd better grab a bite before the next stop.......
tried this bihun-at coco??something...actually its at the food court area..it was GOOD....they even give a lime and...( the photo above is my 2nd round) .. sambal...oso good lar!...price RM1.80...and with that Kluang kopi-o panas...ok man.....

Ipoh City Watch Forum...."Restructuring Local Councils."
Restructuring local councils.....a popular topic now given the new political climate..and it showed with a good attendance....that and the fact that the speakers were prominent and well versed on issues of local councils....
Below the ICW Chairman Mr Chan Kok Sun giving his wellcoming address.....He posed a good question...'we asked for change...are we the citizens of Ipoh ready to change.."
The MP for Ipoh Barat M Kulasegaran (m kulas speech is linked) giving a speech to the forum participants....he gave some great suggestions on the way local councils should be run....such as
1. Have council meetings after office hours .
2. Attire at the meetings to be informal.
3. Sub committee meetings to be open to the public.
4. Meeting minutes to be posted on the internet for public feedback....
.....all the above suggestions sounded great to me.....lets hope it is implemented....
The Forum speakers (L to R) Dr Goh Ban Lee ( local council expert), Derek Fernandez (legal expert on local councils) and the infamous investigative journalist R Nadeswaran
This speaker Derek..hilited alot of guidelines ......
...like such......
.......even the local council spec has a guideline on how to appoint a councilman...apparently the previous government never followed the SOP.....
..that should explain why most of the councilors were invisible????
..he goes on to further suggest that ..'non government revenue must be maximized and profit generating..it must not be privatized......if the local councils can control 50% of the leakage...there will be an increase in revenue...and can be put to good use...bonuses given to employees!!..."
..Citizen Nades touched on the wrongdoings of the local council..he gave a funny example..."a hawkers license being issued to an address along Tiger Lane..." very good one...
..some interesting participants during the Q&A were these students from Sunway ( Michelle & Pang ) who posed some questions to the speakers.....Both Derek and Nades were glad to see young faces mentioning that alot of the new politicians now are actually quite young.....
..this group of students did a working paper for this forum targeting the 18-25 years group ...below are some of their findings and suggestions ..(pls click on the pages to enlarge)
..some points that struck me...*Education... * Recreation & Social activities..Rakan Muda...is not active..??? really...
..*Communication.."it is a challenge to obtain info on the developments in Ipoh????..."and **Infrastructure...buses are inadequate..broken bus stands...bad timing...all the basic expectations of the rakyat...interesting...even the young are frustrated....
and their question....." Will the new local councilors ensure a better administration??"
Well Mr Kula was there representing the new government...lets see...and Derek asked this question twice..."where are all the state assemblymen??"......
cheers!

A Penang Club Election......
I dropped into The Penang Sports Club one evening recently....I was waiting for the jam to clear....the bar is always a pleasant 'oasis' to pass an hour of so....
I saw this notice in the mens room...it was right in front of me...what else to do but read ....it was the list of candidates that were seeking election for the position of office bearers....wow! this was serious campaigning going on......read the list of nominated candidates while taking a leak......
..looked like a '2 party' election going on........."Reinventing"...wasn't this a slogan used recently .......?? (pls click on the photo to enlarge)
...saw the nomination list at the front hall.....i'm not sure if this campaigning is due to the current political climate that has just swept into Penang or maybe its a trait of the Penangite....they are serious about everything they do....
.....anyway may the best team win........and whoever wins please maintain the service standard....its always a pleasure to stop by the PSC.
Cheers!

The right size.....
I'm in the mood to makan lately....played around with this photograph to make it look like a silkworm cocoon....
....these are sausage rolls...freshly baked and begging to be picked up.......
the nice lady that makes these rolls makes it the right size. You can pop a whole piece into your mouth in one go......so much so a tray this size doesn't last long at all.
yummy!

A shower and a fresh beginning.......
I managed to capture a rainbow (image) this evening...it rained around 330pm. ..by 5pm the sky had cleared ......it was bright and sunny....a rainbow was streaking across the sky.....kids were playing in the playground...the leaves on the trees were a fresh green color...
(click on the photo to enlarge)
...it felt like the beginning of something new...the old washed away....a fresh beginning was on the horizon...
cheers!

'Himpunan Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat.' at Perak Stadium Ipoh
The MB of Perak hosted the event for 5 MBs and CM from Perak, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan and Selangor last night at Stadium Perak
The MB's of Penang, Kelantan and Selangor could not make it. However another "event will be planned and these absent MB's would be invited again..." The rakyat of Perak applauded positively when the MC asked if the absent MB's would be wellcome for a 2nd round....
The supporters / traders started arriving around lunch time....
..these PAS personel from 'Unit Amal' Perak branch were on hand to ensure work and traffic were being arranged accordingly...they actually did a great job....
..the scene at 7pm....getting ready for the evening prayers...
..on the track....in front of the grandstand...
..muslimin and muslimat....note the aisles behind are still empty....
..this is my first time witnessing such a scene at Perak Stadium...
..prayers are done......
...everyone arranges their mats on the field....looked like a carnival under the bright floodlights..
,,,supporters from Pandan Selangor......
..supporters from Bukit Gantang.....
..album shots....latecomers saying prayers before all the speakers arrive..
...time 8pm+ ...awaiting the arrival of the VIP's....
they arrive at 9pm.....
Some of the topics mentioned.....
- throw out race politics.." Saya Anak Malaysia keturunan Tiong Hwa"...Nga.. all applauded.
- the Babi issue in Selangor ..."stop making an issue of this...as long as it has a high tech operation and enviromentlly friendly..proceed...' .......applause from all......
- MB's going into empty offices....
- Transparency...tenders..etc.
Light note...when Nga Kor Ming spoke in Mandarin the whole stadium applauded positively..where he stated that all the Malays in Perak understood Mandarin....claps.....
..the crowd listening attentively on the field....
..view from the speakers stand...a sea of white caps.....
..'Special Force' personel all the way from Kelantan.....
..it was a good night...a moment in history...possibly the starting of a new government in Malaysia...there must have been 40,000 in the crowd...i'm not sure...I heard a figure of 50,000..
this was the scene at 7pm....
..the scene at 9pm.....
..the scene at 11pm...more than half the field is filled...and the aisles are also filled..
..these are supporters not just from Perak but other states as well...can this night on 14th April 2008 be used as a gauge to determine the sentiments of the rakyat....???...
Well we'll just have to wait through the following months to find out.
