Han Chin Pet Soo (3) ...The Upstairs of the Club...

This heavy door leads to the upstairs of the club. This solid wood staircase is similar to those found at the the Station Hotel and Muzium Darul Ridzuan...

..at the top of the landing...a lounge area which opens out to the verandah at the back of the club..

..the verandah looks out to the Kinta River...

..the furniture at the lounge area.... still the same as when it started..... i love the floor tiles..

..the games room...mahjong tables.. this room is air conditioned....

,.. nice furniture....it has a very comfortable atmosphere in here...

..a government letter dated 1897 permitting the "members of the chinese club to gamble....."

..the club's rules and regulations?...hanging on the wall of the games room...

a lovely club ..right in the heart of old town..next to the Kinta River...another heritage landmark ..from its building, floorings and furniture..a glimpse of Ipoh of a time gone by....

the invitation to photograph this club was a privilege indeed.....

Han Chin Pet Soo (2) ...The Downstairs of the Club House..

This Clubs' building had always interested me due to its design...it naturally stood out compared to the normal shop lots found at Old Town.....so when i inquired if i could photograph the club and was given a positive response by......

..the club chairman Mr Lee Nyam Chong (above)..i was very happy...it ended up that i took a walk into history...into a time gone by....

this miners club was started by Leong Fee (photo above)...the owner of the Tambun Mines..Leong Fee had employed western management and technology to run his mines in the early 1900's....he was also a state councillor .....i was informed that application for membership to the club is only upon 100% approval by all of its members......

..as you walk into the club house there is a stained glass divider at the entrance.....

...behind the divider is a long table where club meetings were held.....everything in the club has remained as it is since the club started...what a feeling of nostalgia....

..the coat stand, lovely floor tiles, the lamp above the table, swinging doors....
take note of the photograph of the clubs founder above the side cupboard...

....the chairs...the frame for the large mirrors ....

the large imposing mirrors on both walls.....the shades of the evening light emanating through the stained glass of the divider....

but this is just for the down stairs...the solid staircase leading upstairs is equally interesting as is the solid door on the landing....

next...check out the upstairs....

Han Chin Pet Soo ...a 114 years old Tin Miners club...

This 3 story building right in the heart of old town is called Han Chin Pet Soo - a Hakka tin miners club. The club started in 1893 and this clubhouse was built in 1929.The club is a 114 years old this year....

The hottest realty then was by the Riverside and this is where the club is located..at the rivers bend of the Kinta River and at the junction of Treacher Street and Panglima Street of Old Town.

Other than some modifications to the bay window the club has hardly changed after all these years.

The front of the clubhouse ...an arched entrance...door and windows have glazed bars in geometric patterns...glazed and colorful patterned tiles decorate...

.....the space below the windows and

the pillars in the front of the club....tiled peacock in full flourish..

..the floor tiles outside the club...chipped but still looking good...

..a semi circular bay window is located on the first floor.

the bay window....... capped by an Islamic ribbed half dome....

the back of the club..on the 1st floor is a terrace which overlooks the Kinta River.

..the front door ..with glazed bars in art deco patterns..

...as you enter the front door a divider greets you....

next...lets go inside...
