I had a round of golf at the Kinta Golf Club at Batu Gajah last weekend..a lovely course..a little narrow but fun and a rather good challenge...
..its been a year since i last played here..and the course has improved greatly...as i walked through the neat fairways i noticed the trees were matured...something you would normally find at the "Royal" courses.....
the view from the 3rd green...looking west..the hills in the background are the Kledang Range..
The Kinta Golf Club originally started as a 7 furlong Kinta Gymkhana Club in ....get this..1890..the British used to have horse racing here then until after World War One when ' a bigger race track was made at Ipoh..' ..the golf course was located within the inner track......
..2nd hand balls on sale...cold drinks are also available.....
the stall is strategically located next to the 16th tee which overlooks this lake...
..local residents of the club.... next to the 18th tee box...
..as you walk round the fairways you will notice old bungalows....
..the remains of the bungalow of Charles Alma Baker..at no 3 Changkat Road..Baker was a New Zealander that did survey work for the colonial government ...
what it looked like then..
..the ground floor of the Bakers' residence...looks really grand..
..the black & white photos ..reproduced from the book 'Kinta Valley'...
..Rumah Tetamu on the right of the 1st fairway ..located next to the club house..lovely bungalow
..the 5 ridge roof " bumbung lima"..over the porch/porte cochere..
a well preserved bungalow..it has the 'bumbung Perak , Perak latticed archway ( atop the side balcony) and papan sisek (decorative roof fascias) ...
..the golf game was fun by itself..the scenery and surrounding was a bonus..from what i've read about this place it sounds like this could be the first heritage golf course in the country..
cheers....
This is a very interesting information. I am going to Ipoh next week for a round of golf. Perhaps I will pay a visit to this heritage golf course.
