Heritage Archietecture....of Perak

..interesting photography exhibition...just the heritage buildings around Perak..

...churches...interesting...as these look like a scene from an English countryside....

....most are well maintained...but...

...these motifs (is this the right description) found on top of Chinese temples....detailed and fascinating ...if only i could view them from below...

...mosques....the contrast in designs is so interesting.....

..and these mansions....

...commercial houses......(below was this design started by Eu Tong Sen?)

...town houses.............

.... a local mansion of the time....

...workers quarters?

...ahhh...the royal touch......

..then we have these grand looking structures.....chinese school....

...and in the 60's....but now are these are an eyesore ?...

....so unlike these beautiful structures.....almost a century on they have become landmarks depicting a time when building an opulent structure was a proud statement to say "I have arrived"

....almost a century on even painters find it charming...........

...and if you want to experience charm check out Garden Villa itself....the exhibition hall ...

..the place was designed with windows all around....seems that Eu Tong Sen (the son of Eu Kong the founder of Eu Yan Sang) used it to view his horses racing.....seems the area which is chauteau park was the area where the rich miners (could be wrong but i do recall hearing the name Chung Thye Pin as one of those horse owners) used to race their horses.

...anyways when you compare the beauty of Garden Villa against the backdrop of the flats next to it, it is a wide contrast.....beauty vs funtionality perhaps?

But arranging all these photographs together does reflect one message...there was alot of outside influence...its all around us...but isn't that what history and heritage is about......guess we won't be able to run away from our past...even if we changed all the road names around town!!!

cheers!
