Ipoh Padang....then and currently

On any morning when you take your morning walk around Ipoh Padang right in the heart of town you cannot fail to notice these MBI workers erecting the poles for the next sporting game to be held at the coming weekend.

carrying a pole .. ..standing it up....

....putting up the top bar.....

its a convenient setup as the store for all these games apparatus is right next to the padang.

..by 8am poles up ..and the flag too.....

..the game for the weekend ....RUGBY......

but that was earlier this year in June....

..now this is what the field looks like currently.....a 4WD track

...in June.....

...currently.....

..more carnage????

..and it covers half the field!!!! ( click to enlarge photo)

this is the last event that plowed the padang!!..the launching of wireless services...

what i can't understand was that the MBI office was nearby but somehow no preventive measures were forthcoming. Considering there have been so many big events held at this premier padang i'm surprised it happened.

Hopefully the repairs won't cost a bomb..and we can get back our Ipoh Padang asap.

cheers.

Poon Choy .....the unity dish

Recently I was invited to my friend's parents 50th wedding anniversary. The menu had only one dish and it was called Poon Choy.It was huge round basin with loads of delicious food..like prawns, 2 types of abalone, oyster, braised pork, broccoli , sea cucumber, mushrooms and a few more. For a table of 12 it was alot.

I arranged the ingredients for you to have an idea how delicious was the dish.

The significance of the dish was that of a family coming together and all sharing a meal from one big pot...resembling unity and happiness as one big family. It was truly a wonderful meal.

cheers!

Deepavali@Little India Ipoh (2)

I returned at night to view the night scene...it was raining...but the crowds were still there...it was different at night....( pls click on the photos to enlarge)

..I noticed that the whole family came out....guess it must be last minute shopping

..or to get the food that is available only during this time ..or to get a burger???

the kacang puteh stall.....packed with goodies....

besides the whole families there were alot of nice ladies here too...

..which i didn't see earlier this morning.....at night there were 2 of these 'Henna 'art stalls

..at the live show at Dataran Little India...there was a huge crowd....

i can understand why ...it was a Bollywood performance..

..fully charged.....

it had the full attention from the crowd......

from every angle.....

Overall Little India Ipoh has stamped its mark as a happening place during Deepavali...I hope it stays that way....alot of us don't visit homes nowadays so its nice to feel the atmosphere of a community at a common location...like 'Malaysia truly asia'....

On the way back to my car was greeted by this 'popular comedian' at VKK store....boy this is a really a good Deepavali show...

cheers!!

Happy Deepavali@Little India Ipoh

I was stuck in a traffic jam at Lahat Road old town on Tuesday 2 days before Deepavaili. The Indian community along Lahat Road had set up stalls on the road and traffic was good for 1 lane only. The feeling of a festival was in the air so i parked the car and decided to try and capture the atmosphere. After all this area has now been named Little India.

Little India is located at the junction of Lahat Road and Belfield Street.

Note the white dome topped building in the middle...that is Ipohs Railway Station...next day when you take THEE DOUBLE TRACK TRAIN to Ipoh Little India is just within walking distance. Also the original Ipoh White Coffee Shop is just 2 blocks east of Little India.

Another view from the top floor of Sonali Boutique. I noted that this area has been named "Dataran Little India"

In the foreground is a water fountain (minus the water). This was the original location for the second Birch memorial dedicated to EW Birch the son of JWW Birch.

The original Birch Fountain ...donated by the Ipoh Chinese Business Community. (photo from the book 'Kinta Valley')

A view of the Dataran looking south.

Looking north. Note the name Little India under 'Silver Town Trading'

Stalls spilling onto Lahat Road...

Kedai VK Kalyanasundram..this shop has been here for ...can't remeber since when...5 foot way stall along Belfield Street...

just take a walk through here to get into the Deepavali mood.

deepavali foodies.....absolutely yummy.....

Kacang Putih from Buntong ?.....

bright coloured Indian clothing......lovely.....

traditional fashion!??

add some glitter....

Little India has been staging live shows since the beginning of the month.Tuesday was the last night.I came back that night....will post the night photos next.

cheers!
