Han Chin Pet Soo (2) ...The Downstairs of the Club House..

This Clubs' building had always interested me due to its design...it naturally stood out compared to the normal shop lots found at Old Town.....so when i inquired if i could photograph the club and was given a positive response by......

..the club chairman Mr Lee Nyam Chong (above)..i was very happy...it ended up that i took a walk into history...into a time gone by....

this miners club was started by Leong Fee (photo above)...the owner of the Tambun Mines..Leong Fee had employed western management and technology to run his mines in the early 1900's....he was also a state councillor .....i was informed that application for membership to the club is only upon 100% approval by all of its members......

..as you walk into the club house there is a stained glass divider at the entrance.....

...behind the divider is a long table where club meetings were held.....everything in the club has remained as it is since the club started...what a feeling of nostalgia....

..the coat stand, lovely floor tiles, the lamp above the table, swinging doors....
take note of the photograph of the clubs founder above the side cupboard...

....the chairs...the frame for the large mirrors ....

the large imposing mirrors on both walls.....the shades of the evening light emanating through the stained glass of the divider....

but this is just for the down stairs...the solid staircase leading upstairs is equally interesting as is the solid door on the landing....

next...check out the upstairs....
