The Sinhalese Bar , the only one in the country......in Ipoh.

The Sinhalese Bar , the one and only one in the country. It is situated at the junction of Jalan Bijeh Timah(Treacher Street) and Jalan Pasar(Market Street).......

the Kinta River is just a block away....

The front facade...swinging doors ( shades of the cowboy saloon!)...tiles on the lower wall.. english and chinese wordings..the bougainvilla tree provides a cooling shade against the morning sun.....

...the huge license outside the premises......The bar was started by 'Mr Perera' before the war and served 'whisky , brandy and typical Sinhalese food..'..the bar is now run by the son....

..the interior of the bar..pink wall, green tiles and a green floor....its a cool, clean and neat establishment...

...a nice dividing screen separating the hall from the bar counter.....

...the bar.. on the side wall are newspaper cuttings of the bar's charitabe contributions ....the owner is a Bhuddist and each year after the Wesak celebrations would make a contribution towards a charitable organisation.

a lot of the customers that come in here like to admire this screen......the photos attached on the screen depict chinese scenes

...the belt on the wall...was sent from Australia to a regular customer of the bar, a Punjabi teacher..he had a waist size around 50 inches or more (imagine the size of that belt?)....the belt was sent to the Sinhalese bar...

unfortunately by the time the belt had arrived the customer had passed away...and the belt has remained at the bar since then.

cheers!
